Numbered Notes music notation. Learning a new way to play music online by Jason MacCoy, Roman Molino Dunn

The Presenter:
Jason MacCoy is the creator of Numbered Notes music notation. He is a computer animation instructor who has worked for several of the world's largest companies. In designing NN he used a "user interface" approach by asking how to make reading notation more intiuitive to learn while offering improved functionality. Numbered Notes emphasizes math concepts found in music including: counting, adding and subtracting, multiplying and dividing, ratios, base numbers, and more. It is a great way to directly learn music and math!

Numbered Notes is a revolutionary new way to write music using numbers in stead of traditional music notation symbols. Anyone can learn to play simple songs and advanced musicians can also use it to see relationships between notes. We use a variety of online teaching methods to educate our users and allow for greater participation.

I’m an English teacher and I’ve written many course books for Oxford University Press and Pearson. I teach adults who need English for work, play and travel, so their key goals are to communicate across cultures, build relationships and get things done.

I grew up and spent much of my working life in the UK (operating in British English). I’ve also lived and worked in Japan and Algeria, and I’ve delivered workshops for teachers in many countries in Europe, the Middle and Far East and South America. For a dozen or so years I’ve been living in Philadelphia, USA. I’ve taught at the University of Pennsylvania and I continue to write course books, training materials and increasingly these days, I also shoot and edit videos. I want to make a positive difference for language learners and teachers around the world and think it’s one of the best ways I can help.
